Joining the Senior Leadership Team, you will work across four Kent authorities; Maidstone, Swale, Ashford and Tunbridge Wells. To be successful in this role you will be an outstanding leader with an effective communication style that is transparent and inclusive. You will continually drive forward service improvements, whilst having political sensitivity and gain the confidence of stakeholders in all organisations.

Head of Audit (Mid Kent Services) Job Description

£62,817 – £80,482

This is a key role at Maidstone Borough Council, the biggest of the three partner authorities of Mid Kent Services. You will be part of the Wider Leadership Team at Maidstone and will head up the finance and accounting function, including procurement. The postholder will be deputy Section 151 officer and has a key role in preparation of the Council’s annual budget and its financial statements. This role also involves responsibility for administering the Kent Business Rates Pool, so has a high profile across the county.

The Council’s financial position is strong, notwithstanding the pressures that all local authorities face. It has used its financial strength effectively to generate service improvements and to invest in making the borough a thriving place. This role plays a central part in the Council’s proactive financial management, by working with Directors and Heads of Service to enable the efficient use of resources.

You will be a qualified accountant with strong technical skills, probably from within a local authority environment, who is keen to take on wider responsibilities and work across the whole range of Council financial and commercial activities. The role will suit an ambitious candidate, for whom stepping up to a deputy Section 151 role in a substantial district authority is the right career move.
